How do you write a prompt?

Nihongo ni yakushite kudasai (Please translate into Japanese)

A little about myself: I own a digital marketing firm, ME DeZign, since 2013, and I design and develop websites and logos. I also work for an IT consulting company in Japan, and I train AI models for a few companies.

What I have noticed is that Japanese mannerisms are reflected when interacting with AI models. When Japanese people ask AI questions or give it instructions, they tend to use polite forms, as if interacting with another person. In contrast, when Americans give AI commands, it’s usually a simple instruction like “Do this” or “Do that.”

When I write prompts, I follow the latter approach and give simple commands. I write programming languages, and that’s just my natural way of doing things. For example, when writing JavaScript, I don’t tell the browser, “Please console.log.” I suppose programming languages are in English, and using simple commands might be more natural in American culture.

It’s kind of interesting how the Japanese seem to treat generative AI almost like a regular human being, showing politeness toward it.
